March 2, 2006 : Habub!!

Yesterday was pretty uneventful, with exception of the HUGE sandstorm going thru the heart of Khartoum...oh dear

Ive been told stories of the fine-ness and pervasiveness of the sand here..and some are true. We thought we had the house all sealed up, and yet we still got sand everywhere! I was just standing outside of the office for a 'dagiga' (1 minute) and I was chewing sand (literally) when I got back to my table

It does remind me of home - how the monsoon rain can conjure up a wall of water, reducing visibility to mere centimeters! Luckily traffic conditions were not too hampered - we could still see couples braving it out and dating near the Nile, oblivious to the dust storm!

Arab-a-day :

1. Habub = dust!

2. Habub Kabir = Big Dust storm
